Sanctuary Saturday at Love Always Sanctuary: Food, Community & Heart
I am so excited because I am at the one and only Love Always Sanctuary — and now they have a Sanctuary Saturday! Every first Saturday you can come out to the sanctuary in Sun Valley, spend time with rescued animals, and get some of the most delicious plant-based meals from local vendors. I knew I had to pull up, and let me tell you… I had a time.
The Vendors
Word of Mouth
Bruh. This is crazy. I’ve never had a fried mac and cheese anything, and putting it in the fryer after it’s baked is heaven on earth. Word of Mouth did not come to play. This is the one. This is definitely the one. And their kale Caesar? The croutons, the creamy dressing, the kale itself — divine.
Banane
Oh my goodness, look at this plantain. Haitian-inspired, plant-based, and full of flavor. I love Haitian and Jamaican food because the flavors are always the best. Their plantain chips in every style — sweet yellow, savory green, candied ginger, and spicy scotch bonnet — were a whole journey. My favorite was the spicy one. That one is for the people with the munchies. That one needs to be in rotation. And the cinnamon tea they paired it with was light, healing, and exactly what I needed.
And I You Café
Frozen matcha ice cubes so your drink never waters down — genius. Add in their homemade cashew-coconut blend and it’s basically magic in a cup. I thought I was making my matchas good at home, but And I You Café showed me up real quick. Smart, sustainable, and absolutely delicious.
Water Cake
Hawaiian shaved ice like I’ve never seen before. Gorgeous, towering, and refreshing. This had me hot in the best way. So good that I’m becoming a dessert lover, not a second. Pure icy bliss, and absolutely perfect for sunny sanctuary vibes.
Ebony Vegan
Kelewele fries with plantains seasoned to perfection. Bold, spicy, and straight-up addictive. This is plant-forward culture food with soul, and it hit in all the right ways.
Simply Irresistible
The cutest cookies with the sweetest story — inspired by Peanut, their pony. Handmade, heartfelt, and moist in the best way. This is not a dry sugar cookie. This is a perfect sugar cookie. Add in the customizable gluten-free options and it’s joy baked into every bite.
Sweet Coyote
A full table of nostalgia and creativity — organic banana bread, German candied almonds, black sesame matcha, pumpkin peanut butter dog treats, and more. Moist, agave-sweetened, and simply divine. You can taste the love and dedication in every crumb.
Plant Based Treaty
Not here as a food vendor, but holding down a booth with a bigger message. The Plant Based Treaty is a global campaign working to shift our food systems away from animal agriculture and toward a kinder, more sustainable future. I’ve supported their work for years because their mission is about real change — protecting animals, the planet, and people all at once. Seeing them represented here at the sanctuary made the whole day feel even more connected to something larger than food.
✨ And beyond the food, the energy was unmatched — with music and sunshine bringing the vibes, and advocacy tying it all together.
Love Always Sanctuary
As much as I loved the food, the real stars were waiting just beyond the booths. Nickie and the rescued baby goats had me melting. These moments remind me why places like Love Always Sanctuary exist — to create connection, compassion, and joy.
